My mother tells me that my sister bought Oregon Trail and put it on our computer specifically to lure me into using the thing, because apparently when I was 8 I FLATLY REFUSED to have anything to do with computers.
I guess it worked. Because I remember faking dire illness to stay home and ford the damn river. THE OXEN CAN DO IT THIS TIME! GO OXEN GO!
Oregon Trail was one of the Defining Thingies of my childhood. My absolute favorite thing to do was go hunting and kill the giant buffalo, even if I could only carry like their left ear back to the wagon to eat.
Fast forward 15 years. My boyfriend at the time introduced me to World of Warcraft, and I was immediately totally addicted, because YOU COULD GO FISHING. And then you could get FISHY TREASURE and sell it for FISHY MONEY and buy BETTER FISHING POLES and also SPECIAL HATS! It was like buffalo-hunting on crack, and with extra special hats. So there was a period of, I dunno, 5 months where I spent all day fishing in World of Warcraft.
It's the only game I've ever really played in my adult life. FISHING!!!
Why do I even ask? Honestly, I suspect I could eat a carrot and you'd think it was ridiculous.
Did you ever play Amazon Trail? That one actually had fishing. And it taught me such important vocabulary items as OCELOT and CAPYBARA. And how to cure malaria.
